Jack hestitated a bit before speaking again. "Don't make me laugh, you don't fight for freedom. All you care about is giving credit to your names. There's no reasoning with your kind. You call me trash but you are worse than that!"

"What if it is? Should I arrest a man, that person would have commited murder. Do you believe one who takes lives should be allowed to walk free in the streets? It is illogical. It makes no sense. What if I just want some credit? Such does not stop me from stopping bandits and thieves from destroying what honest men work for." Proteus retorted, apathy in his face as he stared with boredom at Frost.

"It's the only way to survive for some people!" Jack finally said snapping. "It's the only way i had to survive, i wouldn't expect you to understand that though. You probably had everything. You don't really care if people like us suffer on the streets its just the way you are."

Proteus hesitated for a few seconds as the boy spoke to him, his back turned on him as he released a slight chuckle, almost as if he was finding this situation to be a gold mine of comedic irony. He rarely let his emotions manifest, but this boy was really pushing it hard.
"Let me tell you a story about a young boy I once knew, Mister Frost." Proteus declared, turning around to stare at Jack with a calm look in his eyes as his hand pressed on the metallic bar that composed the cell. "He was born in the most humble of places. Humble is not even the most correct word, for it was a cell. A cell was the place the boy first came in contact with the world. His father was a great thief, revered in the underworld as probably the greatest his generation had ever seen! The mother was a mistress, hired to accompany men into wild encounters. So many good officers seduced by her...so many killed for her to steal their wallets. Now, both mother and father were arrested, and the child raised in the prison with them, meant to pay for the crimes they had commited, for neither one of them lasted long in the hell hole. He grew up, never seeing the air of freedom nor the light of day. He believed he'd perish in the place he was born. Until the day he realized this was not his choice. He realized he could be more than what fate told him to. He had never sinned, he deserved forgiveness. He deserved a chance. And so, the boy requested auditions. The boy received a parole. He was forgiven and taken in by a nobleman conducting a reformation program. Doing it all according to the rules, such boy grew into a rank of high respect in the military. He made a choice. He chose to do the best he could to protect other children from being raised like he was. He did all he could to prevent such horrible people as his parents were from doing such heinous acts ever again. That is why he embarked on a long journey, looking for the most vile villain of all. And he is here...I can feel it."

"Gee, that's a lovely story." Jack said with a growl. "At least that kid wasn't beaten up by his own father and thrown out in the streets and forced to live how to survive out there." he probably wouldn't have admitted that to anyone. no one in the pirates knew about his past at all, he had kept it a secret. So why was he telling this to a Marine. "At least he didn't get beaten after his mother died from a sickness that his father believed he caused."

"That boy was me, young Mister Frost." the inspector said with a cold stare, his arms once again behind his back as he heard Jack's story with a calm expression in his face, even if he took some pity on the child. Such feelings were eventually supressed as he reasoned the law as the law and that no one was above it.

"Gee, your life sucked." Jack muttered, telling his story hurt, and despite that there were tears burning to come out, jack refused to cry.

"That is the point of one maturing, Mister Frost. Maturity is not what most people think. It is not about men having large penises and muscles and being a stud amongst large breasted women. No. Maturity is a chance to grow. To make instrospects on your past mistakes. To make sure you never the same idiotic mistake ever again. Life is not easy. It never will be. It will always do things to block out our path. We just have to turn it around and stay as clean as we can. Sometimes it is not that bad." Proteus replied, shaking his head as he fixed his uniform, the one he wore proudly every day he stepped into the lines of duty.

Jack snorted a bit. 'Well, forgive me if i hadn't grown up learning that. I still have plenty of time to mature. I am just a kid after all." not to mention being mature didn't really sound all that fun to begin with but he decided not to say that much.

"You should not be executed, Mister Frost. I'd advise you to remain calm and stay there until your judgement is done. Who knows? Maybe one day you'll come out on parole." he muttered with a straight face, analyzing the boy.

"Executed for stealing?" Jack asked with a raised eyebrow. "isn't that a bit harsh?"

"In some areas yet. In others not. In this particular part of the galaxy, you should just get a few years of jail. Death is much too radical for a young offender." Proteus assured him calmly.

"Stealing and killing is never right, Mister Frost." he said clamly, fixing his hair as he walked up the stairs. "I'll keep an eye on you. Hopefully we can turn this around."
That said, he left.
