Proteus was leaning against the Sato Mansion's living room's wall, still not getting over the fact of how overwhelming it was to him. He definetely had never expected to get this close to the famous soldier Hiroshi, nor did he anticipated the chance of tutoring his daughter during her recruit. Asami was surely an impressive asset on the new military fleet. Not only was she incredibly gifted in the arts of marksmanship and analysis of situations, but she also posessed nerves of steel he never expected in someone her age.
His arms folded over his chest, his eyes darted around to fixate the door as he heard it unlock, signaling someone was coming in. Judging from the delicacy with which the knob was turning, he assumed it was Asami.

Asami walked past the several trees that marked the pathway to the entrance door. She snorted. One thing she'd always tell her father was that that was ridiculous. Now that he was gone she couldn't help but feel worse about all the green around her.
It was dark and she didn't notice the vehicle stopped outside the front gate. Her hair was a mess and her clothes was equally dirty. She felt the dried out sand in her back and it itched like crazy! She moved faster to the house to get in the shower as soon as physics would allow and took her a few tried to get the right key to open the bit wooden door that would lead to the comfort of her house.
She closed the door behind her and didn't care to look around. She let her bag fall from her hurt shoulder and hit the floor with a hoick before she walked to the kitchen, taking her dirty t-shirt off and throwing her at the nearest surface.
But after a few seconds near the sink, she stopped. She completely stopped anything that she could possibly do, even breathing.
"The lights are on." It was the first thought on her mind. She wouldn't leave the lights on because she would usually leave the house too early to need them.
Looking around she picked up a knife and turned around silently.

The sound of Asami's delicate, feminine steps, which definetely came in handy when it was about discretion and stealth made it hard for Proteus to determine whether she was incredibly close or incredibly far. He had to addopt a more serious stance, focusing on the most tenuous sounds to hope to find out where she was. She was apparently not expecting him, which would make this meeting incredibly messy should the wrong interpretations be taken. He did not mind it much at the moment. He had to train her so that she'd be able to take good care of herself in a more serious, professional situation, so this was the perfect exercise.
He realized she was in the kitchen as soon as he heard the familiar sound of metal being pulled from its resting place. Knives were incredibly easy to detect, no matter how small they could get. Passing his hands on the hilt of his own blade, he stealthly walked towards where Asami was, waiting for her reaction.

She heard the heavy steps of what she thought was a grown man, judging by the weight and strength. She cursed, once more silently, evaluating her possibilities. She could run but she wouldn't do that before trying to fight. As the steps were close enough, she counted the seconds as she pulled her arm back and turned the blade to hold the cold metal between her fingers.
The silhouette appeared at the kitchen door and she didn't think twice before she let the knife leave her fingers at an amazing speed and let it hit the door, close to the intruder's head.
"Stop!" she picked up two other knifes and held the handle in a defensive position. "Or i'll t- FUCK!" She inhaled, annoyed but also relived.
She walked to the familiar face and gored the knife on the door. "Don't. Come into my DAMN HOUSE!... Unless i tell you to."
She picked up her shirt and dropped the knife as she passed next to him. "Idiot."

Proteus's eyes widened as he felt the metal cut the air next to his head before the sound of its pointy structure entering the wooden door spliced the inside of his ears, making his heart beat grow much faster and out of control. He would not lose his composure over such a trivial matter, but still, this was an event that definetely left him slightly shaken, maybe even taken aback. His eyes darting to gaze at the female, he took a step to the side as he saw her lunge with the blaes, only to slightly feel relieved as she realized it was him.
Asami had always been a girl who amused him greatly. Her tantrums and feelings in extreme polarities made their entire relationship much more interesting and less 'out of a novel' than what he ever expected it to be. She was a firm young woman that did not allow herself to be pushed around, and he greatly admired that in her. It also kept his hands full, so it was a mtter of joining useful to pleasant.
"It is good to see you missed me too, Miss Sato." he declared firmly, bowing his head softly at her reaction, trying not to make his will to laugh that obvious. For some reason, he could not feel stoic or emotionless near her. She meant alot, which was something he never expected he could admit.

Asami stumbled across the living room and put her shirt back on as she turned back and the end of the staircase that led to the second floor.
"You are not respecting a person's privacy! I did not give you a key for you to use it freely, i said i'd give you a key for you to use in case of an emergency." She waited for a reaction that did not come along with the amused expression Proteus kept up. she hated when he tried to be a happier and joyful young man around her. It made her feel like she was fifteen again and her father was trying to stick her in ugly dresses and send her to piano lessons. It was painful to remember and a lot more to relive. "Does it LOOK like i'm dying? Is the house on fire? Are you on fire? NO!"

"Honestly, I had come here to inform you your recruit was being sucessfull and that the officials are highly pleased with your performance...which is why they'll put you in a higher standard." Proteus admitted with his hands in his waist, slightly amused at Asami's reactions. She always had that fiery, feisty demeanor to hide her emotions, which made him relate alot with her. It was part of her natural charm, something that made her stand out from the crow much more. He would never say it to her, at least at the moment, but she did manage to actually awake emotion in him. "But I take it you are not in the mood for those so I'll say you refused."
Shrugging, he walked to the door, raising his hand. "Bye now, Miss Sato." he siad briefly with a small smirk as he walked with his back turned to her, slightly lost in his thoughts about her. When he realized it, he'd only feel angrier at himself.

She opened her mouth, ready to talk over whatever Proteus had to say and shook her head as he said he'd leave.
"Are you insane?! They'll do what? I'm- come back here Mr., you can't say that and walk away!" Well great, she did manage to bring herself to fifteen years old. All that was left to do was pout and blink so fast no one would actually see her green eyes through the dark eyelashes.
She walked after him and hoped he did turn back. He was unpredictable and that was another thing she hated about him. At least she liked to tell herself that. She knew there were a lot of four letter words that she could replace her hate for. But she also knew she didn't want to do that. At least not while she was constantly receiving orders from him.

Proteus turned around and shrugged at her with a blank expression on his face, even though he knew she'd probably see through the mockery in his lips and see he was toying with her. he had not lied at all, and that was the funny part about all this. In spite of how harsh and strong she was, she was still easily "tamed", which made everything much more amusing. Playing with her was incredibly fun.
Patting her head with a small smirk, he shook his head, almost letting out a chuckle before taking a few steps back. "Oh, I'm sorry. I fear I did not hear you over your complaints. Dreadful events, really. And here I was hoping we'd make something out of this little incident!"

She looked at him for a while before she actually thought about his words. Once more, he had come around to give her something she did not have the time or mood to care for. She shook her head and turned around, going up the stairs slowly so she wouldn't feel the pain in her sore muscles and talked in a calm voice, almost like all the yelling didn't happen.
"Close the door when you leave, please."
She really didn't have the time to think about anything. Especially these kind of stupid games he'd like to come and throw at her along with a rule book she'd never understand. It was like all he liked to do in his spare time was annoy her or fix the broken things in the house she couldn't with a new phase of her life starting.

Proteus's mocking smirk slowly faded into an expression of seriousness, the one he usually adopted when the two of them were out on patrol. They were oftenly speculated about by other recruits, with many hinting at a possible relationship between the two now that the girl's father was not in the way to stop them from doing all they wanted. This kind of theory only heightened his anger at them, as he, before anything else, was a soldier, and never allowed his emotions to get in the way. He also respected Hiroshi's memory too much, not to mention Asami, in spite of all he did to tease her, to hit on her in such situations. Not that he ever wanted to...or so he thought. The fact that she managed to shift his mood so quickly was another mistery that kept fascinating him aswell.
Sighing, he leaned against the wall looking at her going up with a calm stare, his hand pressed against the counter while he heard her slowly move up the stairs. "It is true, you know? That you are getting promoted? I also wanted an excuse to check on you. But I guess you knew that."
Shaking his head, he turned around, his brown ponytail waving as he walked towards the door, opening it delicately, not wanting to bother her more.

She turned around in the stairs. Asami faced the red velvet under her feet that she mother insisted on having. "Everyone likes walking up stairs like these! It makes you feel good."
She was wrong. It was not the stairs but the back that she wanted them that way. Now that she was alone it was just a bad choice of carpet and old wood that was surprisingly holding her weight. Just like Proteus. With her father he was a friend. A person she would count on anytime and run to so she could share her day with the older, amazing soldier Hiroshi almost called his own. Now, he was left with the weight he carried. Herself.
"Why are you telling me that? Aren't you supposed to keep it a secret?"

"Not really, since we're out of duty at the time being. When we're working, I can brag about being a really good professional. Outside of work, I'm simply Proteus. No Inspector, Sergeant, Colonel or Liutenant as a prefix before my name. I am me, and simply me. A man, and not the law. Aren't I incredibly philosophical today?" he explained calmly as he stared at the ground, a slight smile softly growing in his lips as he began feeling amused with what he said. He was certain it'd get on the girl's nerves, but he really did not mind. He did feel proud of himself most of the time, and this'd be no exception. She aided in helping him feel more balanced and free. She was a better influence than he ever was, in all honesty.
Walking up behind her, not really minding, he had one hand on his waist, staring at her back with calm and serenity. "I have the right to want to spend some time with you that doesn't involve violence or aprehensions, now don't I?"

He wasn't entirely right. They worked together and she lived near enough from the campus so that anyone could see him around all the time. Because he was around all the time, even if there was nothing going on. He'd be at her house anytime he would have free time. She was training to be a soldier and she could be accused of cheating if they decided they didn't like their relationship. He knew that. Near to a promotion, the last thing he'd want was that someone would tell him he was helping a cadet. There would be no promotion, maybe no job.
She wanted him to be around, she wouldn't lie about that. She didn't like that though. she was probably a lot more scared to be kicked out than he'd ever be. It was everything she had.
"Sure. But I have the right to not want you here."

"You do, Miss Sato, but that right becomes meaningless once your wants are not the reflection of your soul's true cravings, would you not agree?" Proteus asked with a raised eyebrow, walking towards her, confidence emanating from him, even though he was slightly hesitant about his approach now. She did not really seem to be in the mood for any game or sorts. He'd have to see where this would take him.
There was one thing she had gotten wrong about him, and that was his commitment to his job. Better than anyone else, she had to realize how much he risked for what he did. It was the only thing that had kept him from becoming the vulgar crowd beneath him. He was born in the gutter, and this was the only way he'd retain his purity and actually bring forth some sort of change in the wretched world he had been assigned to protect. Sometimes it was not that bad.
"Also...what's a small afternoon of quality time between acquaintances?"
